Technique: embroidery and hand weaving on a low-warp loom. 2023.
Metáxi is a short story and a textile book, born from the reading of two authors: Donna Haraway and Emanuele Coccia. In a community of relatives, silkworms and human weavers live in a community where they generate each other. We follow the growth and metamorphosis of Mori, a silkworm, until he fuses with a human offspring through Metaxis, a new embryonic attachment with a connective function between species. In this work, I wanted to address the issue of the sensible as an intermediary, as the encounter between our sense organs and the object; and a type of relationship between species, in which all are connected and reproducing with each other, for the production of the new and for the maintenance of communal spaces. A tale embroidered and materialized in a textile book, so that it becomes a sensitive experience.
“Metáxi is a work of unparalleled sensitivity created by Beatriz Freire from the dialogues and readings proposed in the study group on the sensible of the Instituto Urdume in 2022.“
