I called it “Between Coordinates and Flames” because in its structure and colors there are codes and maps of Portugal and Spain, as well as the memory of what burned in a past summer. I live between countries. I lived for a long time in one on the edge of the other. Or perhaps I inhabit a concept more than a place. I am Iberian, or I simply recognize myself as non-national.
I dyed the wool with the following plants:
Olive tree
Aleppo pine
Echium vulgare + iron
Heliotropium European
Rockrose
Broom
Oak lichens | oak lichens + ammonia
Rumex
In the photographs, you can see the geographical coordinates of each plant embroidered, which I translated and used as a textile code to weave each piece.
The scribbles on the front of the piece are burns I inflicted on it.
