Beatriz Freire (Portugal) textile artist.

There is information in the world that the senses, in their habitual use, cannot capture. I inhabit this conviction as a starting point: that there are states, rhythms and forms of existence that remain invisible not because they do not exist, but because the tools with which we normally perceive the world do not reach them. It is from here that weaving becomes my system of thought and my primary language. I use it not merely as a technique, but as a device of access and translation: textile notations are writing systems that organise structures and transmit information. It is from this potential that I develop my entire practice, drawing on other media such as film, performance and sound archive, not to move away from the textile, but to demonstrate its capacity as an expanded language. My work is processual and translinguistic. Error and repetition are part of this process, and the objects and textiles that result are active traces of thought, mediators between sensory experience, the invisible world and the material world. I seek to create an encounter with my work that can open a breach in habitual perception and render sensible what normally remains out of reach.
